Elevated Liver Enzymes Need A Closer Look
A FibroScan is often recommended when routine lab work shows liver enzymes that need further evaluation and a clearer view of liver health.
Advanced liver health screening using FibroScan technology. Non-invasive biometric testing to assess liver fibrosis, fatty liver disease, and overall metabolic health.
FibroScan is a non-invasive ultrasound technology that measures liver stiffness and fat content—early indicators of liver disease. At Family Practice Center’s Atlanta location (our flagship facility), we offer FibroScan screening as part of a comprehensive preventive health assessment.
Fatty liver disease and liver fibrosis often develop without symptoms. FibroScan detects these conditions early, allowing for intervention before serious damage occurs. The test is quick, painless, and requires no needles or radiation.
FibroScan is especially valuable for patients with risk factors: obesity, diabetes, high cholesterol, heavy alcohol use, or viral hepatitis exposure.
A FibroScan is often recommended when routine lab work shows liver enzymes that need further evaluation and a clearer view of liver health.
Patients with concerns such as diabetes, high cholesterol, excess weight, or metabolic changes may benefit from screening that assesses liver fat and stiffness.
Some patients schedule a FibroScan as part of a broader preventive care plan and want more insight into liver health before symptoms appear.
This screening can be helpful when your provider wants to track liver changes over time and follow how your health is responding to treatment or lifestyle changes.
A visit may make sense when past liver concerns, alcohol use, or other health history factors call for a more focused assessment.
Many patients schedule FibroScan when they want more information that can guide decisions around nutrition, weight, follow-up care, and long-term health planning.
Your FibroScan visit is designed to give you a clearer picture of your liver health and help identify concerns that may need follow-up. Our team guides the visit with clear communication and thoughtful support.
Your provider reviews your health history and risk factors to determine if FibroScan is appropriate for you. Fast for 2 hours before the test (water is fine).
You’ll lie on your back while our technician places the FibroScan probe on your skin (right upper abdomen, over your liver). The ultrasound takes measurements. The whole test takes about 5–10 minutes and is painless.
Your provider reviews results with you and discusses findings. If abnormalities are detected, we develop a management plan to protect your liver health.
Family Practice Center, PC participates with most major commercial insurance plans, and we recommend verifying with your insurance carrier that your specific plan is accepted before your visit. It’s your responsibility to provide current insurance information at each appointment and to confirm that our providers are in-network with your plan.

FibroScan is generally supported by insurance for patients with fatty liver disease or elevated risk factors such as diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure. We discuss coverage before any testing to help you avoid unexpected costs.
You lie on your back with your right arm raised. A gel is placed on your abdomen, and the FibroScan probe scans the surface of your skin. The process is painless and typically takes about ten minutes.
