Policy Overview
Effective January 1, 2023, Family Practice Center implemented a MyChart messaging billing policy to reflect the clinical time required to respond to certain types of patient inquiries. This policy ensures fair compensation for the clinical expertise and time our providers invest in addressing your healthcare questions through secure messaging.
Messages Not Billed
The following types of MyChart messages are not subject to billing charges: messages that result in an office appointment scheduled within 7 days, follow-up questions from patients within 7 days of an in-office visit, post-procedure check-in messages, and quick administrative or informational updates that do not require clinical assessment.
Messages That May Be Billed
Messages that may incur a billing charge include those describing new symptoms requiring clinical assessment and diagnosis, requests for medication management or dosage adjustments, chronic disease check-in visits that involve clinical evaluation, and other communications that necessitate significant provider time and expertise. The cost for these services ranges from $30 to $100, depending on the complexity of the clinical issue being addressed.
CPT Codes
These virtual visit charges are processed using standard medical billing codes: CPT 99421 for established patient online visits (5–10 minutes), CPT 99422 for established patient online visits (11–20 minutes), and CPT 99423 for established patient online visits (21–30 minutes). These codes ensure your billing is transparent and consistent with industry standards.
