Family Practice Center offers the full range of standard vaccines. The groups below cover what patients ask for most. If you need something specific for a medical condition or an upcoming trip, call your nearest location and we will confirm what we carry.
Routine Adult Vaccines
- Flu (influenza): Recommended every year for nearly all adults, ideally before the end of October. A yearly flu shot is one of the few vaccines on a strictly annual schedule.
- Tdap and Td (tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough): Adults need a one-time Tdap if they never had it (and then every 10 years thereafter), then a tetanus booster every ten years, or sooner after a deep or dirty wound.
- Shingles (Shingrix): A two-dose series for adults 50 and older, and for younger adults whose immune systems are weakened by illness or treatment.
- Pneumococcal (pneumonia): Recommended for adults 50 and older and earlier for those with certain heart, lung, liver, or metabolic conditions.
- Hepatitis B: Now recommended as a routine vaccine for adults through age 59 who have not been previously vaccinated and/or are at increased risk of acquiring Hepatitis B., and beyond that based on risk.
- COVID-19: Available and updated for current strains, with timing your provider can tailor to your age and health.
Vaccines for Teens and Young Adults
- HPV: Recommended through age 26, and worth a conversation up to age 45. It applies to all genders.
- Meningococcal (meningitis): Routine for adolescents, and important before college dorm life, military service, or certain trips.
- MMR (measles, mumps, rubella): Adults without documented immunity may need a dose, which matters more now that measles is circulating again and before any international travel.
- Varicella (chickenpox): For adults who never had chickenpox or the vaccine as children.
Travel Vaccines
International travel can call for vaccines weeks before you leave, since some take time to build protection and others come in a series. When a trip is on the calendar, book a travel visit four to six weeks ahead if you can. Common pre-trip vaccines include typhoid and hepatitis A, matched to where you are going and what you will be doing there. If your destination requires proof of yellow fever vaccination or another specialized shot, call ahead so we can confirm what we stock and we’ll point you in the direction of travel clinics around the city who can get you what you need for your trip.
