Dr. Tawanna J. S. Strauther, board-certified in both Family and Lifestyle Medicine, joined Family Practice Center in October 2026. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Tuskegee University before earning her medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. She went on to complete her residency in Family Medicine at St John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis, MO.
As a National Health Service Corps scholar, Dr. Strauther began her career in rural central Michigan. She immersed herself in the full scope of family medicine, including both inpatient and outpatient care, obstetrics and delivery, pediatrics, adult medicine, and geriatrics. This experience helped establish a firm foundational knowledge of acute and chronic disease management across the spectrum of age, as well as an appreciation for disease prevention. As a Lifestyle Medicine physician, Dr. Strauther believes in a whole person-based approach to patient care rooted in the pillars of lifestyle medicine, which examine the adverse impact of improper diet, non-restorative sleep, physical inactivity, social isolation, unmanaged stress, and substance use on one’s physical and mental health. Lifestyle medicine uses evidence-based therapeutic modalities to empower, motivate, and encourage patients to make sustainable behavioral changes that lead to health and wellbeing.
As a certified yoga instructor, Dr. Strauther enjoys yoga in her daily life. She prioritizes self-care, a mindful diet, and healthy social connections centered around the love of family. Fun fact, known for her affinity for flowers, you will never catch her without one in her hair.
Dr. Strauther is accepting new patients at the Buford and Braselton locations.
Dr. Strauther is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centred care by taking the time to understand each person’s concerns and developing practical, personalised healthcare plans that support lifelong wellbeing.
