A new study published in the medical journal Nature Medicine estimates that the number of adults in the US who develop dementia each year is expected to rise precipitously over the next few decades. In fact, they estimate that the number will double over the next 35 years and reach roughly one million cases annually by 2060. This concerning news is the result of several factors, including the simple fact that people are living longer than they have in the past. Advanced age is the leading risk factor for dementia.
With this in mind, taking steps to help prevent dementia is even more important than ever before. This includes the following:
- Developing & healthy sleep habits
- Working hard to maintain a healthy, stable body weight by eating right and exercising regularly
- Prioritizing heart health
- Keeping your mind active as you age with puzzles, reading, and maintaining an active social life.
