hands-hold-model-of-heartHere at Family Practice Center, our providers continuously stress the importance of preventive medicine to our patients. What does this mean? Essentially, being proactive and making healthy lifestyle choices in the interest of preventing illness and maintaining good, long-term health and wellness. Because weight management is an integral part of preventive care. We are very excited to announce that we are adding a few outstanding medications to our list of weight management services.

In recent years, considerable breakthroughs were made with the development and introduction of injectable weight loss medications that have been proven to be safe and highly effective. Family Practice Center now offers a number of these medications including Mounjaro®, Wegovy®, Ozempic®, as well as the generic Semaglutide, to help patients who are in need of assistance getting down to a more healthy body weight. According to the FDA, these medications are considered safe for long-term use and come with very little risk of any serious side effects.

These medicines fall under the category of GLP-1 receptor agonists. This kind of medication promotes fullness, meaning that they primarily work by helping people get full more quickly, which can help prevent overeating. They can also be used as a treatment for patients with type 2 diabetes in some cases due to their ability to decrease blood sugar levels and enhance the secretion of insulin.

It’s important to remember that while these medications can be incredibly helpful, they alone are not a substitute for lifestyle adjustments like eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Here at Family Practice Center, we offer several additional weight management services intended to help patients maintain their new healthy weight over time. This includes nutritional counseling, meal planning, exercise and physical activity planning, and more.

We are proud to offer these remarkable medications and believe deeply that they will contribute to our goal of full body wellness for our patients.
