Have you been seeing yellow pollen dust on your cars and porches? This time of year in Atlanta, it is very common to see this everywhere.  You may also see numbers or colors in the news indicating the pollen count. Lately it has been in the red-orange zone, which means high-medium high pollen levels. Thus, symptoms you are experiencing could definitely be due to allergies, and Family Practice Center is here to help.

Common symptoms

Common symptoms of allergies are sneezing, nose congestion, postnasal drip, itchy nose or throat, watery eyes, cough, and fatigue. Typical treatments for allergies are over the counter antihistamines such as Claritin, Zyrtec, and Allegra and nasal steroids such as Flonase and Nasacort. If these medications are not working, there are also prescriptions available which may better help your symptoms. Allergy shots are another treatment that can be used if symptoms are persisting.

Is it allergies or an infection?

Symptoms that indicate an infection is more likely are fevers, nasal obstruction, and facial pain or pressure. Infections can be viral or bacterial and may or may not need antibiotics to improve. If over the counter medications are not helping your symptoms, schedule an appointment by contacting us today to be evaluated and treated by one of our Physicians here at Family Practice center located at 993 Johnson Ferry Road, Suite F210, Atlanta, GA 30342 your resource for Family Medicine.
