person-getting-vaccine-shot-in-shoulder Staying up to date on your vaccines is always highly recommended, but especially so this time of year. With the cold winter months come seasonal viruses and illnesses that can majorly dampen the holiday season, or even pose severe health concerns in more serious cases.

Here at Family Practice Center, we offer our patients a full selection of recommended winter vaccines, as well as the personal, hand-on knowledge of our expert medical team. This way, our patients don’t just receive the care that they need, but also the assurance that they are in safe and trusted hands every step of the way. Keep reading for more details on the vaccines we recommend for all adults this winter.

Flu Shots

Flu shots to protect against influenza are recommended for everyone 6 months and older. Despite the prevalence of flu cases, and the very real possibility of serious flu symptoms that can lead to hospitalization or even death. The CDC estimates that less than half of adult-aged receive a flu shot each year. While getting a flu shot does not mean that you won’t get the flu, it does lower your chances of becoming infected. Additionally, people who are vaccinated against the flu tend to have more mild symptoms and recover more quickly.

RSV Vaccine

For some, RSV can feel no different than a common cold. For others, especially very young children and older adults, RSV can spread to the lower respiratory tract and lead to more serious illness. There are many things you can do to prevent RSV, but getting vaccinated against it is the safest and most sure bet to avoid more serious symptoms. We recommend the RSV vaccination for adults 60 and up, or those 50 and up with certain underlying health conditions.

COVID-19 Boosters

Despite recent changes instituted by the FDA, COVID-19 boosters and vaccines are still very strongly recommended this winter. Prescriptions are no longer required in Georgia. We have both Pfizer and Moderna COVID vaccines available at our offices. People older than 65 here in Georgia can still receive COVID-19 shots as they have in years past. Those under 65 with certain underlying conditions that affect the body’s ability to fight off COVID-19 infection are eligible as well.

There are other vaccines that may be recommended for specific people, including the pneumococcal vaccine to provide protection against pneumonia and similar effects. We will discuss these options in full-detail during your appointment to ensure that every patient feels informed and confident in their decisions.
