“Annual Physicals”
There’s no such thing as Free Lunch

Preventative service exams, aka “Annual Physicals”, are a staple of primary care medicine. With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), aka “Obamacare”, preventative service exams have gained a lot of attention. Under the ACA, most insurance policies cover ONE annual preventative service office visit no cost to the insured. Everything used to be included in a co-pay and you were on your way after seeing the provider.

Things are very different now.

annual-physicals-blog-postWhat some policies will pay for as part of an annual physical varies dramatically. For example, some policies will pay for blood tests, an EKG, and an X-ray at a physical, while others won’t even guarantee coverage for any testing at the preventative services office visit. As a courtesy to our patients, we will call your insurance company prior to your visit. During this call, we find out exactly what is covered during your “free” physical. We give you the option at Family Practice Center to stay within the limits of your “free” physical – or address matters outside of this Preventative Care visit, which will result in additional fees based on your individual insurance policy.
Stay tuned to our next installation of “Annual Physicals” for more explanations on this changing arena in healthcare. But, in the meantime, call us at Family Practice Center to schedule your preventative health screening. We will do the heavy lifting for you. All you need to do is call us. 404-256.1727
